JTC Highlighted in CNN Heroes: All-Star Tribute

JTC was highlighted in the 2011 CNN Heroes: All-Star Tribute which aired live on CNN from the Shrine Auditorium this Sunday, December 11th.

JTC was one of five downtown LA nonprofits selected to participate in a feature promoting volunteerism. Debuting this year, the segment was added to translate the Heroes’ significant accomplishments into something actionable for viewers.

Sarah Tashjian, a Mercer employee who has volunteered over the last two years (and is currently volunteering two days a week in the Fund Development department), was interviewed for the segment. Most of the filming took place in our preschool, where our Thursday morning class proudly sang several holiday tunes for the cameras.

About Orange County Guild

Diana M. Spinoglio, President Tustin, California Founded 1964

The Orange County Guild was founded by a parent of a deaf child enrolled at John Tracy Clinic. Its mission is “to provide funds for John Tracy Clinic’s worldwide efforts to help hearing-impaired children attain a normal, productive life.”  The Guild started its first year with a benefit event called the Peacock Hill Horse Show at the Peacock Hill Range in the North Tustin area. The Horse Show was underwritten by a number of local businesses, box holders, patrons and trophy sponsors. The Peacock Hill Horse Show became a successful fundraiser and a Class B National Horse Show for 15 years until the ranch was sold.  Since 1978, the Orange County Guild, with the support of the OCG Steering Committee, has hosted an Invitational Golf Tournament, which is attended by community leaders and celebrities. The tournament, which takes place at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Nigel, has been hosted in recent years by Shawn Parr, popular country music radio DJ on Go Country 105 FM. Included is an awards dinner, along with opportunity drawing and raffle.  The Guild draws much of its strength from the very capable leadership of several longtime volunteers and their families, and a second and third generation of members has now emerged through their sons and daughters and grandchildren.
