Help JTC Win $250,000 from the Pepsi Refresh Project

JTC has been officially accepted into the December round of the Pepsi Refresh Project and we are in the running for $250,000! If chosen, our project named, "Give Deaf Children a Voice" will provide funding for the JTC Preschool Program.

AMVETS National Ladies Auxiliary Members Visit JTC

The AMVETS National Ladies Auxiliary 2nd Vice President of Child Welfare, Leslie Wunderle, visited JTC on Nov 15th along with Ladies from Post 113, Post 116 and the Department of CA. They toured the campus, met staff, observed in preschool and asked questions about childhood hearing loss and use of technology.  The AMVETS Ladies heard the personal story of Patrice C. who spoke about her family’s appreciation for JTC’s programs that went beyond staff sharing ideas to sharing their hearts.  Her two-year old daughter Sammy charmed the visiting AMVETS Ladies as they chatted and posed for photos. The AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary has been a supporter of JTC for more than 34 years and are involved in a campaign to “fill JTC’s wagon” this year to raise funds for service to families worldwide.

JTC Launches Pilot Program Bringing Hearing Screening to Early Head Start and Head Start Population

This month John Tracy Clinic launched Tune In To Sound, a pilot hearing screening training program for Early Head Start and Head Start which serve low-income infants, toddlers, pregnant women and their families.

Distinguished Former JTC Teacher Visits Deaf Education Graduate Program

Jean Petta, now 86 years young, spent a year at JTC as a new teacher in the early 1940’s. She recently visited JTC and was hosted by two of her former graduate students Mary McGinnis and Jane Freutel, who currently administer the John Tracy Clinic/University of San Diego Deaf Education Graduate Program. Mary and Jane have known Jean for decades, beginning with their graduate school program at California State University, Los Angeles, where Jean served as a practicum supervisor. Jean also supervised both of them when they were teachers at Oralingua School in Whittier, where Jean was the principal.

Recent Study Reinforces John Tracy Clinic’s emphasis on early testing for deafness and early interve

This week US News and World Report featured the recent study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association finding that earlier hearing tests do help children born with hearing loss.

Mercer, Inc Volunteers Bring Carnival to JTC

Thanks to JTC Board Member Nihar Shah, Mercer Inc. volunteers brought a carnival to JTC Preschoolers on September 30th. Mercer selects non-profit organizations and provides volunteer work as an outreach program to their local community.The volunteers set up games, face painting, arts and crafts, cookie decorating and musical activities for the JTC kids. Orange County Guild Presents JTC with Proceeds from Shawn Parr Invitational Golf Tournament

Yesterday members of the Orange County Guild presented a $45,000 check, the proceeds from the 32nd Annual Shawn Parr Invitational Golf Tournament held last May.

Technology Expands JTC’s Parent Class Workshops Across State Lines

John Tracy Clinic's Tuesday Evening Parent Class Workshops in Los Angeles are now extending their reach to Las Vegas with a collaboration dubbed, "Hello LOVE" (Las Vegas Outreach for Virtual Education). Using Cisco's WebEx online meeting technology, parents in Las Vegas were able to "attend" the workshop in Los Angeles last Tuesday.

California AB 2072

John Tracy Clinic is supporting California's AB 2072, a bill by Assembly member Tony Mendoza that would require the State Department of Education to develop an informational pamphlet for the parents of newborns and infants identified as deaf or hard of hearing. Part of John Tracy Clinic's mission is to ensure that all parents are given the opportunity to learn about all of the possibilities for their children with hearing loss. If you agree and live in California, please consider asking California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign this bill.
