John Tracy Clinic, in Partnership with the University of San Diego School of Leadership and Education Sciences, announce a new Master's and Credential Program offering a California Education Specialist Credential: Deaf & Hard of Hearing & a Master's Degree in Education with a Specialization in Special Education designed for teachers who want to specialize in auditory-oral and auditory-verbal education.

Founded in 1942 by Louise Treadwell Tracy, wife of actor, Spencer Tracy, John Tracy Clinic is a pioneer in parent-centered, auditory-oral education for infants and preschool children who are deaf or hard of hearing. For over 50 years, the Clinic has prepared graduate-level professionals and has helped to address the chronic nationwide shortage of teachers of the deaf through partnerships in higher education.

Two-Year Online Option

--Requires current employment in an auditory-oral "Center of Excellence" as outlined in the Alexander Graham Bell Association's "Components of a Quality Auditory-Oral Program"

--Two summer residencies of one month each at John Tracy Clinic in Los Angeles

--Field supervision by qualified, auditory-oral personnel

BOTH program options share the following features:

  • 44 units/16 courses
  • Experiences in auditory-oral classroom settings
  • Participation in auditory-verbal therapy and inclusive educational settings
  • Hands-on fieldwork with parents and their children with hearing loss (birth to age five)
  • Extensive experience with children who use cochlear implant
