The following requirements must be completed before entering the program:

1. ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
(B, C, and D are met with a Multiple Subject Credential)

  • A. American Sign Language & Deaf Culture
  • B. Typical/Atypical Child Development
  • C. Teaching Reading & Writing
  • D. Regular Education Fieldwork
  • E. GPA of 3.0, undergraduate and graduate

2. EXAMINATIONS

  • A. GRE (Graduate Record Exam) [minimum score of 1000]

JOHN TRACY CLINIC/UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO
COMBINED MASTER'S AND CALIFORNIA CREDENTIAL PROGRAM:

ADDITIONAL PREREQUISITES DISTANCE LEARNING OPTION

 

1. Residency Requirement at John Tracy Clinic, Los Angeles, California
Candidates must attend two Summer Residencies of 4 weeks each. Distance Learning Option candidates are required to live in Los Angeles within daily commuting distance of John Tracy Clinic to attend daily classes and practicum experiences during the summer institutes. Living and transportation expenses are paid by JTC whenever possible.

2. Employment of Candidate at Centers of Excellence

The emphasis of the University of San Diego School of Leadership and Education Sciences/JTC Teacher Education Program is on spoken language. Therefore, to complete course assignments and meet credential standards, including student teaching, throughout the entire program, all Distance Learning Option candidates must be employed at auditory-oral Centers of Excellence, as evaluated by the Alexander Graham Bell's "Components of a Quality Auditory-Oral Program" (http//www.agbell.org/sections/chklist.pdf). The site must be approved by the John Tracy Clinic Teacher Education Director. The Centers of Excellence must agree to:
  • Provide the prescribed educational experiences for the candidate, including access to a variety of auditory-oral and auditory-verbal educational settings in order to observe, teach, and evaluate children of different age ranges, and in different contexts (individual, small and large groups, etc.)
  • Provide the appropriate daily mentoring and supervision by qualified personnel trained in auditory-oral and auditory-verbal education
  • Provide the appropriate technology to allow supervision by university personnel

3. Technology
All candidates in the Distance Learning Option must possess a newer computer (less than 2 years old) with the appropriate hardware and software, including a built-in mic and camera, in order to fully participate in the online classes. The following is required:
