John Tracy Clinic Launches the First Online Spanish-Language Training for Professionals
(Taller Virtual para Profesionales)
For seven years, JTC has reached out to professionals who work to support children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing in the Spanish-speaking world by holding on-site training courses in “parent-centered services” held concurrently with Spanish International Summer Sessions. Given the demand for more such trainings, JTC staff recently launched its first online training for Spanish-speaking professionals. This two-part event held on May 30-31, 2018 reached groups of professionals in Argentina, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, and Paraguay.
Each of the six workshops in the “Taller Virtual para Profesionales” emphasized the mission of JTC: offering hope, guidance and encouragement to families of children with hearing loss by providing parent-centered services, including coaching, counseling, and educational audiology. The trainers include an auditory verbal therapist, audiologist, family counselor, a panel of alumni youth of JTC’s programs, and their mothers. Each workshop concluded with the professionals sharing reflections from this educational experience. JTC aims to create communities of learners who connect with one another to promote parent skills and empowerment.
Plans for future virtual training are being considered for 2019. Interested persons should check the website for announcements.
