Director of Audiology
Position Summary
The Director of Audiology at JTC is a licensed pediatric audiologist overseeing clinical and educational aspects of the Audiology Department. Responsibilities include setting clinical policies, ensuring clinical performance standards, coordinating staff education and preceptorship, addressing educational audiology needs, and organizing community outreach and events. The Director of Audiology is also responsible for managing front desk operations, including scheduling, insurance authorizations, invoicing, and medical records, and ensuring adherence to established protocols. Additionally, the Director assists with clinical operations planning, fundraising, and grant writing as opportunities arise. The Director of Audiology reports to the Chief Operating Officer, who provides support for front desk operations and any audiology-related business. The Director plays a critical role in maintaining exceptional family services and communication skills, ensuring the highest quality services to families and children, and working to enhance the overall effectiveness of the department. The Director also leads and participates in educational audiology services both on-site and in the field, supports volunteer training for community hearing screenings and actively contributes to family-centered learning opportunities such as parent classes and JTC’s Friday Family School. A key responsibility includes exploring and managing the development of a hearing aid dispensing and loaner program at JTC, including ear mold impressions, fitting processes and ongoing audiological management for children in our care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

JTC Team Member

Clinical and Educational Audiology Services
- Administers and interprets developmentally appropriate, comprehensive auditory evaluations and diagnostic tests, communicating impressions and recommendations to referral sources and families.
- Counsels parents and patients on test results and reviews options that best meet their hearing care needs.
- Coordinates and interprets test results, preparing reports on diagnostic findings.
- Provides education and consultation to JTC staff, graduate students, and occasionally the community, to increase knowledge of auditory disorders, their implications, and management.
- Supervises graduate students or externs in the Audiology Department.
- Maintains accurate and comprehensive records in patients' medical charts and department-based files.
- Collaborates with JTC team members and other professionals, such as speech-language pathologists, listening and spoken language specialists/auditory-verbal therapists, and classroom teachers, to manage treatment plans and monitor patient progress.
- Performs checks on listening devices and provides hearing aid repairs, assisting patients and families with troubleshooting cochlear implants as needed.
- Assists JTC staff with troubleshooting listening devices (Hearing Aids, Cochlear Implants, BAHAs) and Remote Microphone Hearing Assistive Technology (HAT) or Sound Field FM systems.
- Stays updated on emerging developments in the field and communicates relevant changes to staff.
- Provides or supervises educational audiology services for contracted school districts, including on-site visits to assess, troubleshoot, and optimize HAT/DM systems and personal hearing devices in classrooms.
- Participates in IFSP/IEP meetings, collaborating with school teams and families to inform service plans and placement decisions based on audiological findings.
- Writes educational audiology reports and provides documentation to support special education assessments and programming.
- Travels to local districts to provide services directly or oversees another audiologist performing these duties to ensure quality and consistency.
Personnel Management
- Interviews, hires, assigns, and orients new personnel in the department.
- Supervises, trains, counsels, and assesses the performance of department personnel.
- Defines the structure of personnel roles within the department to meet the needs of families.
- Shares responsibility with the Chief Operating Officer for managing Personnel Action Sheets, Employee Agreements, and Policy and Procedures Manuals in the Audiology Department.
General Department Management
- Reports to and collaborates with the JTC Chief Operating Officer
- Plans agendas, coordinates meetings, and tracks decision-making for audiology staff.
- Plans and recommends budget revisions to the Chief Operating Officer and President & CEO.
- Manages the fee-for-service model in the Audiology Department.
- Shares responsibility with the Chief Operating Officer for authorizing and verifying time sheets; supervising and responding to requests for all types of leave (vacation, sick leave, discretionary leave).
- Oversees requests for ordering, repairing, and purchasing equipment and supplies.
- Plans and supervises the scheduling of all department calendars and events.
- Coordinates JTC events with the Management Team.
- Supervises the ordering of all necessary forms and publications for departmental management.
- Works with the Billing Coordinator maintaining a clear understanding of documentation required for authorization and billing purposes.
- Manages data collection, analysis, and program evaluation for audiology and consultation services.
- Writes or provides annual reports with program numbers and demographic information to the Development department.
- Assists with fundraising and grant writing efforts as needed and based on opportunities.
- Participates in community outreach events and works to form and strengthen relationships with community partners.
- Teaches or co-teaches parent education classes and contributes to JTC’s weekly Friday Family School alongside the Educational Services team to support family learning.
- May have opportunities to teach Audiology courses in the JTC’s graduate program.
- Supports the strategic planning and development of expanded audiology services, including future capacity for hearing aid fitting, dispensing, and ongoing audiological management.
- Collaborates with the Billing Coordinator and COO to explore authorization pathways and reimbursement models for hearing aid-related services through private insurance and California Children's Services (CCS).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Doctoral degree in Audiology (Au.D.) or equivalent; or more than 10 years of related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience that is equivalent.
- California licensure in Audiology or a related field.
- Hearing aid dispensing license or eligibility to obtain one is preferred; experience or interest in hearing aid program development is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Audiology Extern
Position Summary
John Tracy Center is a non-profit organization and non-public agency providing parent-centered services locally and globally to children with hearing loss, offering families hope, guidance, and encouragement.
The JTC Audiology program offers an extensive range of diagnostic hearing services and recommendations for children of all ages, from newborns to the age of 18 years. An Audiology 4th Year Student Clinician would gain experience in diagnostic services including auditory brainstem response, otoacoustic emissions, immittance testing, visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry, and standard audiometry. We also provide educational audiology services to the students who attend our onsite preschool and other contracted school districts. The Audiology 4th Year Student Clinician would have the opportunity to work closely with other professionals and families by participating in the various parent-centered services JTC provides.
Audiology 4th Year Student Clinicians find their experience at JTC fulfilling and rewarding through meaningful interactions with families and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Administration and interpretation of objective, behavioral, and electrophysiological measures of auditory function.
- Conduct pediatric hearing evaluations including auditory brainstem response testing, otoacoustic emissions, behavioral observation audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry, standard audiometry, and immittance testing.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of amplification for patients and make direct referrals to managing pediatric clinics in the community.
- Conducting daily clinical tasks including: report-writing, consultation with families, referrals, and consulting with outside professionals (i.e. dispensing audiologists, schools, therapists, etc.)
- Maintain and enhance professional relationships with JTC staff, medical professionals, community audiologists, and educational specialists. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and JTC staff.
- Assist Preschool and Parent-Infant staff and families maintain appropriate amplification for learning: troubleshooting equipment, meeting, and e-mailing with parents, updating families’ primary audiologists (including Friday Family School).
- Attend and conduct education services and interdisciplinary staff meetings, IEP meetings, and in-services as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
To qualify as an Audiology 4th Year Student Clinician/Extern at JTC, graduate students must be enrolled in a clinical doctorate program in Audiology and have completed the required course work including pediatric audiology and electrophysiology. Additionally, a mutual agreement between the prospective graduate clinician and JTC is required.
The Audiology 4th Year Student Clinician position may be eligible for a stipend during their time at JTC, subject to budget considerations prior to the student's engagement.
