Position Summary

John Tracy Center is a non-profit organization and non-public agency providing parent-centered services locally and globally to children with hearing loss, offering families hope, guidance, and encouragement.

The JTC Audiology program offers an extensive range of diagnostic hearing services and recommendations for children of all ages, from newborns to the age of 18 years. An Audiology 4th Year Student Clinician would gain experience in diagnostic services including auditory brainstem response, otoacoustic emissions, immittance testing, visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry, and standard audiometry. We also provide educational audiology services to the students who attend our onsite preschool and other contracted school districts. The Audiology 4th Year Student Clinician would have the opportunity to work closely with other professionals and families by participating in the various parent-centered services JTC provides.

Audiology 4th Year Student Clinicians find their experience at JTC fulfilling and rewarding through meaningful interactions with families and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Administration and interpretation of objective, behavioral, and electrophysiological measures of auditory function.
  • Conduct pediatric hearing evaluations including auditory brainstem response testing, otoacoustic emissions, behavioral observation audiometry, visual reinforcement audiometry, conditioned play audiometry, standard audiometry, and immittance testing.
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of amplification for patients and make direct referrals to managing pediatric clinics in the community.
  • Conducting daily clinical tasks including: report-writing, consultation with families, referrals, and consulting with outside professionals (i.e. dispensing audiologists, schools, therapists, etc.)
  • Maintain and enhance professional relationships with JTC staff, medical professionals, community audiologists, and educational specialists. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and JTC staff.
  • Assist Preschool and Parent-Infant staff and families maintain appropriate amplification for learning: troubleshooting equipment, meeting, and e-mailing with parents, updating families’ primary audiologists (including Friday Family School).
  • Attend and conduct education services and interdisciplinary staff meetings, IEP meetings, and in-services as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify as an Audiology 4th Year Student Clinician/Extern at JTC, graduate students must be enrolled in a clinical doctorate program in Audiology and have completed the required course work including pediatric audiology and electrophysiology.  A required professional experience (RPE) is required in the state of California, you can find more information about obtaining this temporary license here: speechandhearing.ca.gov/applica..u.shtml

Additionally, a mutual agreement between the prospective graduate clinician and JTC is required.
The Audiology 4th Year Student Clinician position may be eligible for a stipend during their time at JTC, subject to budget considerations prior to the student’s engagement.
