About our program:
The Education Specialist Program in Deaf and Hard of Hearing at Mount Saint Mary's University is founded on five principles: passion, excellence, advocacy, respect and leadership. These foundational principles make for a career choice that is IMPACTFUL. We have high expectations for our grads, who have become published authors, state coordinators, program directors, and teacher-leaders in the field.
Philosophy of the program:
Our philosophy focuses on twenty-first century technology and science that allows children with hearing loss to develop listening and spoken language. Principles in family centered support and interdisciplinary practice are emphasized throughout the program.
The Masters and Credential Program offers two choices to students.
- Master of Science in deaf education
- Master of Science plus a Preliminary California Specialist Credential
All course work is grounded in the educational and developmental domains of children who are developing typically, children with hearing loss and children with multiple disabilities.
